Pins of the Week

10 May

I’ve talked a few times about Pinterest and how I think it’s one of the greatest inventions on the internet since the internet. (Thanks, Al Gore. Note a hint of sarcasm here.) Recipes, funnies, crafts, IT’S ALL THERE! So, here’s a few of my favorite pins and pindventures lately.

So, I tried to make a yellow version of this awesome ombre green painting. I kind of made a mess, and of course it doesn’t look as good as this one below.

I’ve used these chalkboard tags on a couple of gifts recently, and they are adorable and awesome.

I’ve spent a lot of time expanding my funny collection:

And, finally, if it wasn’t for Pinterest, I wouldn’t have found this awesome frosting recipe. I used it when I made these delicious Cappuccino cupcakes a few weeks ago.

Quinn – Iowa Family Photographer

14 Apr

Although I mainly consider myself an awesome wedding photographer, I like to try my hand at other types of photography. You know, for fun! A couple of weekends ago, I ventured to Iowa to take a few photos of six-month old Quinn. She definitely knew how to grin for the camera. Lucky for us, we picked the last weekend with good weather because since then we’ve pretty much only had snow, ice, and rain. This is not the best combination for outdoor photos of little ones. But, who needs to go outside when you have awesome window light? Not me!

Play Ball

Another thing about Spring that I love:

IT’S TIME FOR BASEBALL!

I saw this pin last year, and it pretty much sums up how I feel about opening day.

Opening Day Checklist from mlb.com

Opening Day Checklist from mlb.com

Here are a couple of more things from Katy’s Opening Day checklist:

  • Start memorizing random baseball facts to surprise other baseball fans with (example: That guy’s WHIP is off the charts).
  • Make playlist of my favorite player’s walk up songs.
  • Find glove. – Check and mark. I keep it by the door all winter just in case it warms up enough to play catch.
  • Watch my favorite Cubs vs White Sox video.
  • Make World Series predictions. (I have a good feeling about the Nationals this year.)

AND, in case you were wondering, Opening Day this year was particularly awesome for me. Cubs won. Yankees lost. Now, if only those Twins could get to winning….

Random fact: At my very first baseball game ever (seriously, I had never even gone to one in high school) I got to see Ken Griffey Jr. And he might have hit a home run. Back then I actually thought his name was “King Griffey Jr.” I’ve grown so much.

Is it Spring yet?

24 Mar

It warmed up for about a week here in South Dakota. Technically, the calendar says it’s spring. Where is the green grass? The birds? Oh, and perhaps most importantly…where is the SUN SHINE?

I will always have a special place in my heart for winter. It forces you to slow down, get a little extra rest (do the short days make anyone sleepy but me?!), and relax. I love bundling up in my mittens and scarf and feeling the snow flakes on my nose. Skiing is a lot of fun for me as well (and I got to go TWICE this winter). I’m an expert snowplower. During winter I have the time to finish all my little household projects, do lots of extra baking (cookies, cookies, cookies!), AND read a good portion of the books I buy during the summer months.

Even though all of that is a lot of fun, I’m ready for warm weather. I’m ready for my flip flops and capri pants. BASEBALL. Going on long walks in the area parks and catching a glimpse of a deer. Planting blooms in my flower box and admiring the local gardens.

Since spring is what’s on my mind today, I’m posting a few spring photos to tide us all over until the next season gets here.

Pink flowers

Jill + Chris

4 Mar

I’ve been working really hard to get a few photos from Jill & Chris’ sweet wedding ready for this post. They had such a beautiful day, and I just couldn’t wait to share these images. So, without further ado…the photos!

First of all, Kayla from Bloom did such a beautiful job on the girls’ hair and make up. Plus, she was so much fun to hang out with.

Everybody, please stop and take a moment to look at how BEAUTIFUL Jill is. WOW! Chris = lucky guy.

And those gorgeous flowers she’s holding are from Blooms. I could do an entire blog post on photos of them.

Thank you to my awesome second shooter for the photo below. The cuteness in it gets me every time.

This may be one of my all-time favorite cake photos. (And not just because the cake itself was so delicious.)

Chris’ dad told the cutest story about Chris being in a wedding when he was little… I won’t embarrass him by retelling it on the Internet, but it was definitely one of the best wedding stories I’ve heard.

Congratulations to Jill & Chris! (And welcome to the family, Chris!)

Winter in the Midwest

21 Feb Minnesota trees covered in frost from Katy Mears Photography.

I’ll admit that winter is my second favorite season here in South Dakota.  The only reason it’s not my first is the stressful driving situations it puts people in. If I lived in a place where I (and all my friends and family) could enjoy the snow but didn’t have to drive in it, I would! Watching the snow fall down outside a window while sipping hot cocoa is one of the best feelings.

I couldn’t resist snapping a few photos of these trees in Southern Minnesota last week when they got all frosty in the morning. It was worth bundling up my mittens and stepping out into the cold to get these photos. Enjoy!

2012 In Review: Weddings Part One

6 Jan

Well, it’s that time of year! Time to look back on what we’ve done in 2012 and look forward to all that 2013 has in store. I had the opportunity to capture some amazing moments in 2012, so here is part one of a review of the weddings I was part of. Thank you so much to all the couples out there for letting me take part in their big day. It means so much to not only be able to express my creativity but provide a memory for couples and their families to look back on.

And, as you can see from a few of the behind the scenes photos below, I also like to have a little fun at these weddings.

Happy New Year!

Falls Park Winter Wonderland

10 Dec

The Christmas light display at Falls Park in Sioux Falls is quite the sight to see this time of year. They decorate all the trees with Christmas lights and hundreds of cars drive through the park to see the show. Jason and I stopped by Saturday night to take a few photos of the lights. Of course we didn’t think it was that cold or windy until we were out and about with the snow blowing in our faces (sometimes right into my contact).

We walked up fourish flights of stairs to the top of the tower so we could see the entire display of lights. We also didn’t realize at the time that the snow that was coming down Saturday night was part of a blizzard in our area the next day. So….we were forced to stay home that day and bake cookies. All in all, a merry weekend for us!

Tis the Season (For Cute Dog Photos)

1 Dec

Remember when I said fall was my favorite time of year? Well, so is the magical time between Thanksgiving and New Years. It’s a wonderful time to slow down and think about all the things you’re thankful for. Amidst many more serious things, I’m thankful for puppies, cookies, Christmas lights, and my camera. And, while were on the topic, here’s a few photos of my brother’s adorable dogs that I took with my camera.
